DALÍ : CYBERNETICS at IDEAL Centre d'Arts Digitals de Barcelona

ISE guests will step into the metaverse to uncover some of Salvador Dali’s dreams and hallucinations that inspired some his most recognisable works such as The Persistence of Memory. During ISE 2023, on Tuesday 31 January from 13:00-17:00, a group of ISE Tech Tour guests will visit DALÍ : CYBERNETICS touring at IDEAL Centre d'Arts Digitals de Barcelona.

“It’s an incredible mind-bending journey through the dreamlike imagination of Dali,” says Rosa Monge, Senior Project Manager and specialist in immersive technologies at Layers of Reality, a collaborator on the DALÍ : CYBERNETICS project.

“ISE Tech Tour guests will be given a unique insight into the combination of floor-to-ceiling video projections, immersive sound effects, holograms, artificial intelligence and much more. The project is a shining example of a growing frontier of metaverse projects that engages visitors to see Dali artworks up close as well as to play and socialise using our unique platform.”

The entire experience lasts 90 minutes, including a 15-minute show where visitors can step into the metaverse using a digital avatar to walk around in the surreal, dreamlike space with total freedom of movement. ISE guests can even interact with fellow guests in real time.

DALÍ : CYBERNETICS debuted in Barcelona in 2022 and has embarked on a tour of cities all over the world, from Budapest to London and Brussels.

Sleep No More: Gran Teatre del Liceu backstage tour

The glamorous 2,292-seat Gran Teatre del Liceu is the oldest theatre in Barcelona – it’s been delighting audiences for 175 years.

In a specially curated evening Xavier Sagrera Serrano, Technical Director at Gran Teatre del Liceu, will present a guided tour on Wednesday, 1 February 2023 between 20:00 and 22:00.

“Behind the lavish interiors and auditorium, ISE guests will be given a preview of the extensive under-stage area, lighting, sound and audiovisual stage technology that’s essential to the venue’s creative repertoire and is usually off-limits to the public,” said Xavier Sagrera Serrano, Technical Director.

The tour coincides with the first rehearsals for the operatic production of Macbeth (16 February to 3 March 2023) and guests will be given a unique perspective of technology requirements by the set designer and producer. Stage director Jaume Plensa was inspired by the haunting words ‘Sleep No More’ for this sombre, theatrical tragedy, full of diabolical energy, performed to music masterfully conducted by maestro Josep Pons.

The building’s extensive reconstruction after a fire in 1994 and subsequent investment and upgrade in 1999 has benefited the Gran Teatre del Liceu with state-of-the-art acoustics, lighting and use of the latest theatre technology.

ISE Tech Tour visitors will be able to walk under and behind the stage, following in the footsteps of legendary performers like Luciano Pavarotti and Plácido Domingo and see where the Liceu Symphony Orchestra and the in-house choir perform.
