Home control has come a long way'from basic remote access and rule-based automation to AI-driven systems capable of understanding context, preference, and intent. In this session, Alex Capecelatro explores the technological and philosophical shift from 'smart' homes that respond to commands to intuitive environments that anticipate needs and adapt in real time. Attendees will gain insight into how advances in voice, machine learning, system architecture, and privacy-first design are shaping a new standard for intelligent living'where the home becomes a seamless extension of its inhabitants. Drawing on real-world applications and emerging trends, Alex will outline what it takes to design, deploy, and scale AI-driven home solutions that compel the clients of our industry.

Many project problems blamed on installation actually begin much earlier'in discovery, estimating, documentation, or the handoff from sales to design and production. On complex residential projects, that handoff is where client expectations, scope, assumptions, budget, design intent, and project dependencies either become clear or begin turning into downstream problems. Drawing on more than 15 years across sales, design, executive leadership, and integration-company operations, this session examines what each team must know before responsibility moves downstream. Attendees will learn how to identify incomplete handoffs, document critical assumptions, surface cross-trade dependencies, and create a clearer transition from sold concept to buildable project. The goal: fewer surprises, stronger margins, better internal accountability, and a smoother experience for the client and project team.

Residential lighting design is still dominated by the point source: the downlight, the pendant, the strip hidden in a cove. But a new category is arriving in the luxury home ' architecture that emits. Walls, ceilings, joinery, and bespoke surfaces built from pixel-addressable light open a fundamentally different design vocabulary: light as material rather than fixture. This session makes the design argument for emissive surfaces in residential spaces and gives integrators the practical grounding to deliver them. We'll explore why tunable white and colour temperature deserve to be first-class creative tools rather than afterthoughts, how generative and data-driven content keeps installations alive rather than static, and how integrators collaborate effectively with architects and interior designers when light becomes part of the building fabric. We'll close with the infrastructure realities ' data, power, and control protocols ' that separate a stunning installation from an expensive maintenance problem.

Our ISE 2025 and 2026 sessions used FEM and hybrid simulation to study modal behaviour in non-rectangular rooms, the effect of treatment, and its interaction with loudspeaker-boundary effects. Both pointed to the same gap: models describe what a room does, not what to change. Building our own optimisation tool made the reason explicit: modal and boundary-interference control are different problems. Absorbers at modal maxima shorten decay times, but response dips are cancellations, and treatment chosen on decay criteria alone can leave them untouched or deepen them. We have measured rooms where partial absorption improved the listening position while full absorption degraded it ' behaviour no single real number can express, and impedance can. We cover why; how the impedance of porous, membrane and perforated treatments is obtained; and what happens when years of studio layouts are re-examined with these tools. We demonstrate absorber design and placement, and what the model cannot do.

Audio-over-IP has quietly become the backbone of high-performance cinema audio. Immersive processors from every major vendor now hand off channels over the network rather than analogue or point-to-point digital ' yet many residential integrators still treat AoIP as a commercial-AV curiosity. This session is a practical, vendor-neutral introduction to networked audio in the private cinema: what AoIP actually is, how AES67 and Dante relate (and what "compatible" really means), and why the industry is moving this way. We'll cover the real-world benefits ' simplified cabling, easy scalability to high channel counts, and freedom in where processing lives ' alongside the things that catch installers out: switch selection, network design basics, synchronisation, and interoperability traps. Attendees leave with a plain-English mental model of AoIP and a practical checklist for their first (or next) networked cinema.

Successful lighting control requires more than selecting keypads and programming scenes. This interactive session examines the practical decisions that determine how well a system performs, how easily it can be commissioned and how effectively it can be supported after handover. Topics will include translating the client's desired moods and activities into useful scenes, selecting and coordinating control protocols, defining system responsibilities and producing documentation that remains useful throughout the project lifecycle. Short technical presentations will be combined with guided group discussions, giving attendees an opportunity to learn from real-world successes, mistakes and lessons from across the room.

While full lighting design can be daunting for many integrators, taking ownership of the execution phase is a massive revenue opportunity. On many projects, "nobody owns the lighting"'electricians just want to know what to wire, and lighting designers don't handle driver placement or cable specification to prevent voltage drop. This panel will focus on how integrators can bridge that gap, solve site problems, and drive business growth.

Many integrators experience strong sales one quarter and financial stress the next, not because the work is lacking, but because the business lacks the systems needed to manage the timing of revenue, expenses, and cash. This session breaks down why these cycles persist and how to replace volatility with greater financial predictability. Attendees will learn how breakeven analysis, cash-flow forecasting, and planning can reveal upcoming cash shortages and help owners make better decisions before a crisis develops. Learning Objectives ' (Understand) Explain why boom-and-bust cash cycles develop in growing integration businesses. ' (Apply) Use breakeven analysis and cash-flow forecasting to identify potential cash shortages before they occur. ' (Analyze) Analyze the timing of revenue, expenses, and cash to pinpoint where predictability breaks down. ' (Evaluate) Evaluate which planning strategies best protect profitability without over-restricting growth.

Most owners believe they could exit when the time comes. Far fewer have built a business that can operate and remain profitable without them. Whether the path is a sale, family succession or greater independence from day-to-day operations, an exit-ready company requires more than strong sales. It requires financial clarity, robust systems, predictable profit and management depth. This session provides a practical roadmap for turning an integration company into a more valuable, transferable and less owner-dependent business over the next 24 months.

Running an AV integration business used to mean spreadsheets, gut feel and late nights chasing quotes. Today, AI and connected software are changing that, and running a business is starting to feel more like playing a strategy game: every decision has data behind it, every move shows up on the scoreboard, and the businesses that learn the rules fastest pull ahead. Lee spent over 15 years as an installer before co-founding WeTech, so he has seen both sides. In this session he looks at how AI is reshaping the way integrators quote, buy, manage projects and get paid, and what that means for margins, growth and investment in the industry. Attendees will leave with: A clear view of where AI is already making a real difference in day-to-day operations Practical ways to use live business data to make faster, better decisions What investors now look for in a modern integration business Simple first steps to start levelling up their own business, whatever its size.

For many integrators, growth is treated as the answer to every problem: more sales, more projects, more people. In reality, growth often exposes weak pricing, poor cost control, and underdeveloped financial systems, leaving owners working harder for lower returns. This session challenges the assumption that growth is always the right move. Attendees will learn how overhead, pricing, and cash flow interact, why volume without a clear breakeven can quietly destroy profitability, and when strategic restraint can deliver stronger cash flow with less operational strain.
