Securing the Human Link: Using CEDIA’s Cybersecurity Guide to help protect your clients

05 Feb 2026
CC1.4
Smart Home Technology Conference

No matter how advanced the technology, the most vulnerable part of any connected home is still the wetware — the humans who use it. CEDIA’s new consumer-facing Home Cybersecurity Guide, launching at ISE 2026,  helps homeowners and their families understand online safety and privacy in clear, relatable terms - from smart devices to daily digital habits.

This 90-minute workshop equips integrators to confidently use and discuss the guide with clients. You’ll learn how to translate cybersecurity best practices into friendly, accessible conversations that help clients protect their networks, data, and family members. Through discussion, examples, and role-play, you’ll explore how to make cybersecurity part of your design process and after-care service — reinforcing your role as the trusted guardian of both hardware, software, and yes, the wetware.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
    1.    Describe how the Home Cybersecurity Guide supports homeowner education and confidence.
    2.    Identify common digital vulnerabilities in connected homes — technical and human alike.
    3.    Communicate cybersecurity concepts to non-technical audiences with clarity and empathy.
    4.    Build long-term client trust by protecting every part of the system: hardware, software, and wetware.
