Global Commercial Display Conference:
Technology Innovations and Industry Developments
Tuesday 3 February, 13:30-16:30, Room CC2
FREE TO ATTEND
This conference is hosted by the China Commercial Display Promotion Association, DISCIEN, and the E-Paper Industry Alliance.
The conference will focus on market changes, the development trends of some global commercial display products, and cutting-edge technological advances and ecological impacts.
Afterwards, free copies of the IFPD/LED/EPD Market and Technology Trend Development Reports, co-created by DISCIEN and leading industry enterprises, will be distributed.
PROGRAMME
This presentation outlines E Ink’s leadership in color ePaper signage technology and its expanding global applications. Originating from the MIT Media Lab, E Ink is dedicated to developing ultra-low-power, paper-like displays. The talk introduces key color ePaper platforms – including Spectra™ 6, Kaleido™ 3, Marquee™, and Gallery™– enabling larger sizes, improved color performance, and reliable operation in diverse environments.
With large-format color ePaper displays reaching up to 75 inches, E Ink is extending beyond eReaders into retail signage, public information systems, transportation, and out-of-home advertising. Addressing market needs such as energy efficiency, frequent content updates, and ESG requirements, E Ink’s solutions offer low power consumption, wireless updates, and low total cost of ownership. Color ePaper signage provides a sustainable alternative to conventional displays, supporting smarter and greener visual communication.
This conference will provide you with the latest market conditions, trends, and technological developments in the commercial display industry, jointly presented by leading consulting firms and numerous leading display companies.
At the end of the conference, three market and technology trend development reports on IFPD/LED/EPD will be released. These are co-created in depth by DISCIEN, the China Commercial Display Promotion Association, and participating enterprises. Audience members can download the reports for free at that time.
The annual shipment volume was approximately 29.16 million units, with a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 3.3%. Against the backdrop of slight growth, the market structure underwent tremendous changes.
The North American market slumped significantly due to advance stockpiling driven by tariffs and the exhaustion of ESF funds; India also experienced a sharp decline as the penetration rate in middle schools was relatively high, phased tasks were nearly completed, coupled with tariff adjustments; Europe managed to maintain stability supported by the RRF fund policy; the biggest surprise came from Indonesia's government procurement order of 300,000 units.
In this context, opportunities emerged frequently in Kenya, Brazil, Central Asia, and other regions. The popularisation of EDLA and the continuous development of the MDEP ecosystem also brought different opportunities to the IFPD industry.
In 2025, the global LED display industry made steady progress amid internal and external challenges. In terms of market size, the sell-in volume reached $6.66 billion (US), and the sell-out volume is expected to reach $9.74 billion.
The deepening of segmented market applications, the continuous emergence of new scenarios and applications – such as LED cinemas/XR virtual production/cultural tourism immersive experiences/commercial retail – as well as continuous innovations and breakthroughs in technologies such as packaging/chips/drivers/substrates, have provided support and momentum for the industry's development.
Shipments reached 481.1 million units in 2025, with a YoY growth of 35.0%. Mainstream electrophoretic technology continued to be optimized, and differentiated technologies such as cholesteric liquid crystal and electrochromic made considerable progress.
Driven by large North American orders and four-colour replacement, shipments of electronic shelf labels (ESL) increased by 35%, with the 2-3-inch segment accounting for 75%; electronic paper tablets (e-readers & writing pads) maintained growth momentum (+18%) thanks to color-driven demand, diverse forms, and a prosperous ecosystem.
Among innovative terminals, picture frames saw explosive growth, the mobile phone case market expanded steadily, colorisation effectively accelerated the shipment pace of nameplates and signs, and miniaturised, scenario-based products such as trackers and calendars emerged one after another.
Whether it is
- front-end AG/AR/AF glass
- current touch technologies
- display technologies such as 21:9 aspect ratio, high transmittance, and large-size
- or back-end EDP interfaces and five-in-one boards,
IFPD technology is generally developing towards better display effects, more efficient collaboration methods, and improved human-computer interaction experiences.
Further enhancements in colour effects and refresh rate will be the development direction for current mainstream e-paper technologies. In the future, mainstream e-paper technologies are expected to develop in diverse ways.
The commercialisation process of other technical routes, such as cholesteric liquid crystal, electrochromism, and dammed electrophoresis, will accelerate, promoting the diversification of e-paper technologies.
