Panel: Museums in the Age of the Metaverse

Tuesday 10 May | 17:00-17:50
Projection Dome, Hall 5

The application of audiovisual technology has begun to transform the museums and historic buildings sector. Once, historic artefacts could only be viewed in static display cases or across rope barriers; now they can be explored, augmented and interacted with using digital technology. This has also allowed for the presentation of multiple narratives within exhibits, and more choice for visitors.

As digital transformation continues within the sector:

  • What kinds of experiences are audiences looking for?
  • Has the pandemic led to any permanent changes in how AV technology is used within the sector?
  • How are key technologies evolving, and what will this mean for what can be delivered?
  • How can museums and historic buildings achieve optimum return on their investment in technology?
  • What are the emerging technologies that show promise?

ISE is delighted to have secured an expert panel of professionals from the museums and historic buildings sector to explore these topics:

  • Miquel Molina Muntané, Deputy Editor at La Vanguardia (moderator)
  • Gary Gautier, Director General, Casa Batlló
  • Hamza El Azhar, CEO, Exhibition Hub
  • Lieven Bertels, Segment Marketing Manager Immersive Experiences, Barco

The panel session is the ideal curtain-raiser to the Opening Day Keynote with Refik Anadol, particularly given the media artist’s work at Barcelona’s Casa Batlló.
