Elena Lown is our Technical Support Supervisor and has been with Brompton since November 2021. After completing her Master’s in Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London in 2019, she delved into a number of varied technical roles, both in a full-time and freelance capacity – from working as a follow-spot operator in London’s West End to managing the technical challenges of livestreaming events which were thrust onto the world during the pandemic. The latter she says was an intense but fun learning curve with “lots of video editing, lots of learning how video infrastructure works”.
At Imperial, Elena was also part of a technical society that provided the opportunity to gain real-world experience, such as working on large-scale festivals. In her words, “It was a bit more fun than a degree because you actually got to build and do things.” This experience sparked a passion for problem solving and her love for being hands-on. Elena continued working on festivals in a professional capacity for some time after Imperial, specifically the Keswick Convention where she worked closely with a large technical team to manage and fulfil an extensive technical agenda.
Our thriving Technical Support department presents an ideal environment for the challenge and change Elena craves. On any given week she could be supervising the technical build of Brompton’s booth at a major tradeshow, taking support calls from users around the world to resolve technical queries, providing training on Brompton’s Tessera system and software, overseeing a setup in our demo area, and going up the BT tower in London to do a maintenance check on the LED system.
Happily, support has been everything Elena never imagined it would be. She enjoys the “wonderful chaos” of her role in terms of the variety it offers day to day, especially within the stability of a strong team.
