Lighting System Fundamentals: Power, Power Quality, and Photometrics

04 Feb 2025
CC1.3
Lighting has become an important offering for many Smart Home Technology Integration companies. While it is important to make things look good and fulfill the needs and wishes of the client, it is equally important to design and install a lighting system that meets and exceeds electrical and energy requirements for lighting systems. Lighting systems are considered part of the life safety systems installed in a residence.

This course will cover the electrical requirements of a complete lighting system.  We will cover load calculations, foot candles, lumens, the impact of color, CCT, CRI, and the requirements of energy codes as detailed in the International Energy Conservation Code and California’s Title 24. Additionally, we will discuss the proper selection of LED lamps for enclosed luminaires and the potential harmonic noise issues created by electronic dimming and LED lamps.

An important part of this course will be to allow an open discussion among the participants of what they have learned the “hard way” through experience of what works and what not to do.
