Abstract:
The AV industry's future prosperity depends on attracting talented people. This session will present research highlighting the scale of the issue, and showcase ways in which AV companies can engage with schools, military veterans and workforce agencies to build more pipelines into AV jobs. You’ll walk away with tools your company can use to establish sustainable models for recruitment at grassroots and regional levels.

Clive edited AV Magazine for 10 years. In 2012, the magazine celebrated 40 years in business - a publishing and pro AV milestone. He is now Group Editor of AV Magazine and Electronics Weekly which celebrates 60 years of publishing in 2020.

A seasoned conference moderator, Clive is also an award-winning journalist who brings with him 40 years of publishing experience. A former Editor of Which Computer? he launched and fronted the first business tv service for the IT and telecomms industry – The Computer Channel. He’s also enjoyed an extensive Fleet Street career writing, most notably, for The Times, The Financial Times, The Daily Telegraph, Sunday Business (and The Wall Street Journal).

Clive is also well known for hosting AV Magazine's AV Awards + Electronics Weekly's Elektra Awards, and as Chairman of AV Magazine's Executive Roundtable discussion sessions, the AV TV Industry Panels and Talking Point interview sessions.

Ian Bryant is CEDIA Vice President of Technology Application and Workforce Initiatives. Ian has enjoyed more than two decades in custom AV and integration. His experience includes serving as a technology subcontractor for residential, corporate, government, and hospitality projects. He ran the Indianapolis office of Detroit-based ZenArray, which specialises in consulting, design, programming, and installation services, before coming to CEDIA. Ian's responsibilities involve collaborating with the education department on high-level pathways and learning tracks, building business partnerships with industry organisations, and managing all things tech at CEDIA's new global headquarters. He works directly with the technology and standards department, tech council, and discovery working group, and his focus on workforce initiatives and workforce development is designed to bring more individuals to the integration field.

With over 20 years’ industry experience, Justin Paveley, Engineering Director at AVMI, is one of only a handful of people in Europe that hold AVIXA’s elite triple certification (CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I), demonstrating his 360 degree excellence in design and installation. Justin was instrumental in helping AVMI achieve the AVIXA Audiovisual Provider of Excellence (APEx) certification. He was crowned European CTS holder of the year in 2017 for his leadership and passion for education in AV, and has since lead and delivered a number of award winning projects, including the coveted Inavation ‘AVIXA Standards’ award for his work with Bayer. Justin was responsible for setting up the first successful ex-military recruitment programme in the industry, a programme at AVMI designed to help ex-military personnel settle back into a civilian lifestyle.

The current chair of the CEDIA Professional Development Advisory Council, Amanda Wildman is also a member of the CEDIA Workforce Development Working Group. She has served as a member of the Business Working Group and has assessed, assisted, and taught courses at CEDIA Expo. Amanda earnt her CEDIA Outreach Instructor (COI) certification in 2014. She is on the board of the Home Builders Association of Greater Grand Rapids and has been secretary and associate member vice president. The Calvin College graduate founded a Finished Trades Group in her city that develops relationships among local trade contractors and builders, designers, and architects.

Joseph is Program Director for the AVIXA Foundation, charitable arm of AVIXA, the international trade association representing the audiovisual industry. He oversees all efforts devoted to creating opportunities for tomorrow’s AV professionals. He manages the Foundation’s workforce development programs, and partnerships with schools and allied organizations. He also spearheads the many annual scholarship and grants awarded to students and community groups striving for success in the industry. He recently launched a global campaign to raise awareness of AV careers, bring skills training to more communities, and connect people to their first AV job.
