AVIXA Women's Council Forum in partnership with WAVE
Abstract:
With an opening address by Sarah Joyce, AVIXA Chief Global Officer, a keynote from the Hon. Mrs Angels Chacón, Minister for Business & Knowledge in the Catalan Government, and in partnership with WAVE, the event will provide plenty of discussion points for inspiring, supporting and empowering women who work in the technology and AV industries. Mrs Chacón has much experience and enthusiasm to share: “Companies have amazing potential to transform society at all levels: unquestionably, we must create new female role models. That is why it is so important to have areas where female talent is shown, such as the one promoted with the AVIXA Women's Council event.” Followed by a panel discussion and a chance to network with colleagues.

In her position as AVIXA Chief Global Officer, Sarah oversees all the association’s activities outside North America, including member services, education and certification delivery, standards adoption, government relations, and expositions. In addition, she sits on the boards of Integrated Systems Events, InfoCommAsia Pte Ltd, and TecnoMultimedia InfoComm..

Sarah served on the AVIXA Board of Directors from 2013 to 2015. She organized the inaugural Women of InfoComm Network Breakfast at Integrated Systems Europe in 2015, helping establish the successful AVIXA Women’s Council, which now supports more than 32 groups around the world.

Prior to her role at AVIXA, Sarah spent 12 years at Electrosonic, most recently as Managing Director.

Àngels Chacón holds a bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Barcelona and is specialised in foreign trade. In 2017, she received her postgraduate degree in Talent Management in Organisations, also from the University of Barcelona.

She has previously worked as she worked as Export Director for Eastern Europe and Middle East markets in the paper industry, as well as General Secretary of the Anoia Business Union from 2008 to 2011. From 2011 to 2015, she was Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Economical Dynamization, Knowledge and Internationalisation of the city of Igualada in Catalonia. During this same period, she coordinated the URBACT 3D Cities project on economic growth and innovation in the health sector. Later on, she coordinated another URBACT project, Retailink, on retail innovation in mid-sized cities.

Carys is Sales Account Manager at Pioneer Group in the UK and also has a busy role in the leadership team for WAVE in Europe. She is a highly experienced AV Professional passionate about networking in AV and delivering sophisticated and modern audio visual solutions that are easy to use.

Emma Bigg runs her own consultancy, Octavius RE, advising a range of clients on AV solutions and project manages her own and other Integrator’s installation projects. Previously she held various roles at SSE Audio Group starting in their hire business in 1999 and setting up their London-based Installations Division in 2006, which she headed up as Installations Director until 2016. Other roles include Technical Production Manager for George P Johnson. She sat on the Production Services Association Council for 4 years, also serving as Chairwoman for one year. She currently sits on the IOA EA Group Committee and helps organize their annual Reproduced Sound conference.

Joseph is Program Director for the AVIXA Foundation, charitable arm of AVIXA, the international trade association representing the audiovisual industry. He oversees all efforts devoted to creating opportunities for tomorrow’s AV professionals. He manages the Foundation’s workforce development programs, and partnerships with schools and allied organizations. He also spearheads the many annual scholarship and grants awarded to students and community groups striving for success in the industry. He recently launched a global campaign to raise awareness of AV careers, bring skills training to more communities, and connect people to their first AV job.

This varied mix of roles has prepared Dan for his current position as owner and Managing Director of the EMEA division of one of the most respected global technology consultancies, Hewshott International. Bringing a flair for design and a robust approach to business management and operations, Dan applies his experience in developing not only the business but the Hewshott team and as such, has a keen interest in mentoring and personal development.

Caroline Carter is the AV Project Manager for Imperial College London. She has been instrumental in the creation and development of the strategy and AV provision at Imperial College London for the last 17 years. The service covers a wide range of AV installations from individual small screens to large capital projects such as the fit-out of the College’s new campus at White City.

Caroline has been pivotal to the success of the College’s investment in AV as the quality of this technology has a direct impact on student satisfaction feedback which, in turn, impacts on rankings and the College’s reputation. With the College’s status as a global top 10 university, AV equipment is at the core of this delivery.

Caroline keeps in touch with the external AV environment such as ISE and Infocomm which ensures Caroline maintains and develops her knowledge of the AV market and state of the art working practices.

Laurie Englert oversees Customer Experience (CX) at Legrand | AV based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Her teams include CX Journey & Events, Digital Experience, Channel Marketing, Product Marketing, Digital Experience and Marketing Technology. In 2019, she was acknowledged by AVIXA in the ‘Women in AV’ category for her contributions in the AV industry. Since 2014 she has worked to drive Legrand | AV’s business and culture to be customer centric. She drives the innovation framework of Design Thinking within the company and has also been able to help customers better their business through innovation and strategy sessions. As a Mentor in the company’s Elle program and an executive sponsor of its Better Community outreach program, she encourages and embraces a diverse team across the organization.
