Extending the capabilities of signageRISE Spotlight: Digital Signage – New Solutions for a New Era

In RISE Spotlight’s Startup Nation, four up-and-coming digital signage software creators gave company pitches and discussed the trends they’re seeing in the market with moderator Már Másson Maack, Editor of Growth Quarters at TNW.

Taking part were:

  • Daria Fedko, CEO & Founder, WeAR Studio: a creative studio specialising in development of AR/VR products. The company develops apps and solutions with augmented, mixed, and virtual reality technologies for mobile platforms, eyewear devices, and VR headsets.
  • Geoffrey Bessin, CMO and Platform Evangelist, Intuiface: the world’s premier platform for creating, deploying, measuring, and managing deeply interactive digital experiences without writing code. For any industry – including retail, hospitality, real estate, tourism, education; and for any intent – from digital signs to self-service kiosks and assisted selling.
  • Germán León, CEO & Founder, Gestoos: an AI platform that enables cameras and sensors to see, understand, and respond to human movement and behaviour in any environment or context. The software recognises the user’s gestures and face, allowing the AI solution to react to each situation.
  • Mats Klevjer, Head of DOOH, Advertima: a 3D computer vision platform provider. Advertima visually interprets human behaviour in the physical world, enabling smart spaces of the future to interact with people in seamless and meaningful ways.

After the company pitches, the speakers joined for a panel discussion with questions from the audience. Firstly, Daria explained WeAR Studio technology can be monetised on a case-by-case basis, using an example of the company’s AR application for a gas station chain, creating an immersive experience for users to work through a game and earn loyalty points, “People who were interacting with this were able to earn points which could be exchanged for discounts on gas, food, beverages… We helped them sell 300,000 litres of gas.”

Geoff Bessin Geoffrey assured that Intuiface takes precautions for a secure installation to protect the data that is being displayed on digital signage, “We acquired an information security standard, which imposes a set of restrictions on our infrastructure which is to protect data.” He also explained that the data is not stored on devices, instead through the cloud which is fully encrypted for additional security.

German LeonAn interesting feature of Gestoos is the software’s ability to detect violence and aggression. Germán explained it’s able to be adapted through human input to help understand different levels of violence and aggression, “We have a tool called the Gestoos Creator, which allows the software to be trained – individual users and companies can train the AI.”

Finally, Mats highlighted how Advertima has adjusted to the market as the pandemic has had an impact on people interacting in physical spaces. He explained how “the advertisement business has been challenged over the past year and the normal status quo has been turned upside down, so it’s been looking for new opportunities to verify the performance of campaigns to determine where to put budgets to.” Mats further detailed how the pandemic has led to them focussing heavily on grocery retail, which has been “stable and audience levels have grown.”
