When it comes to digital learning, encouraging and maintaining engagement is one of the biggest challenges facing educators, but there are a number of ways to optimise this. This was one of the messages from Practical Applications of Digital Learning, a Virtual Watercooler Meet hosted by CEDIA.
Key, of course, is content, but establishing the right setup is also important. For Steven Rissi, Director of Technical Training at CEDIA, this means imitating the in-person environment as much as possible, with audio and video that creates the opportunity for natural interaction, such as asking questions.

Samantha Ventura, Senior Vice President Education and Training at CEDIA, added that the audience also has to have the right setup in order to enjoy the best possible experience. “Avoid assumptions as to who has what, put a baseline expectation on what someone should have and share basic tips for best practice ahead of lessons,” she advised.
Finally, Rissi highlighted the importance of thorough training for educators. “Distractions for students often come when educators have technical issues, so educate instructors and make systems reliable, intuitive and as simple as possible to operate.”
The session was chaired by Ed Wenck, Content Director at CEDIA.
