The sustainability dilemma at the heart of AI - Claudia Feiner, innovator

ISE Insights
How do we square AI’s massive energy consumption with the need for sustainability? Smart Workplace Summit keynote speaker Claudia Feiner has something to say on the matter.

Claudia Feiner“We’re standing at a crossroads where artificial intelligence (AI) and sustainability intersect,” says Claudia Feiner. Two unstoppable forces are reshaping the AV and system integration industries, she says: “On the one side, AI is a this incredible game-changer solving huge challenges, from boosting workforce efficiency to optimising energy and smart buildings, or even smart cities. But on the other side it comes with some heavy baggage – massive resource and energy demands, to name just two – that could cancel out those very benefits.”

Claudia describes herself as a visionary innovator bridging technology and strategy, driving transformative change through her experience in AI, digital transformation and cutting-edge technologies like gaming, metaverse and Web 3 technology.

She is giving the keynote session at the Smart Workplace Summit at ISE 2025, entitled Carbon, Code, and Consequences: AI’s Sustainability Dilemma. “I’m there to challenge how we think about AI not just as a tool for progress, but as a responsibility. It’s about designing solutions that make the planet, your businesses and even societies better without breaking them in the process.”

The good, the great and the ugly

One of the key trends driving this conversation is AI in AV systems: “The way AI is transforming AV networks is nothing short of revolutionary: automation, personalisation, predictive maintenance. But what’s lurking behind the scenes is a carbon footprint that we can’t afford to ignore.”

Another trend is, of course, sustainability in tech. “More and more businesses are going carbon conscious: energy efficient cloud computing and hardware recycling. The AV industry now accepts this is becoming non-negotiable.”

Last but certainly not least, data ethics and power dynamics are where things get real. “Data is the fuel for AI. But when a handful of big players control it all, we are talking data colonialism. For the AV industry, where integration is everything, this is a trend we can't overlook. These issues are far from industry buzz… they're a force shaping the future of how we work and innovate.”

Igniting a fire

Claudia says her session at ISE 2025 is “for anyone curious, especially those ready to lead the charge into the future: AV integrators, tech innovators, and strategists shaping the direction of their organisations,” to name a few.

Attendees will leave with “a clear understanding of the hidden trade-offs around AI and how to address them head on; more actionable insights and real world strategies for creating AI solutions that balance cutting edge innovation with sustainability; and of course, inspiration: a fire in your belly to lead the charge and turn sustainability into a game-changing advantage for your business.” The session isn’t about theory, it’s about “empowering you with the understanding and mindset to make bold, impactful decisions that shape the future of the industry and beyond.

From ideas to action

Claudia is “pumped” for ISE 2025 because “this is where ideas get turned into action. I'm there to meet the visionaries, the doers and the disruptors who are as passionate about AI technology and how it could change our lives as I am.

“ISE is a goldmine for learning from the best, discovering cutting-edge tech and collaborating with the kind of people who push the boundaries. But most importantly, it's about starting conversations that matter, conversations that drive change, not just talk about it. The energy of this event is unmatched. If you are not leaving ISE inspired, you're doing it wrong!”
