Education Technology Summit

ETS

A Learning Future for All

Tuesday 3 February, 14:00-18:00 / CC5.1

Find out the strategies, learning models and trends driving the deployment of education technology in universities, schools, corporate bodies and training facilities.

In a world where online and hybrid learning abounds, there needs to be a good reason to bring people together in person. This year’s Education Technology Summit blends archaeology, philosophy and time travel to bring a unique learning experience for each participant.

We discuss the alignment between technical possibility and human intent exploring not only what is possible but also what works for learners and teachers. How can we use the technologies at our disposal to ensure that every learner has the best possible learning experience? How do we improve inclusivity and personalisation rather than exacerbating the digital divide?

We will hear from those working with the very latest in learning technologies from AI to immersive learning and finding out how they are making better use of data. Using insights from three decades of edtech we end with a fast and fun session where we collectively draw out the skills, mindset and tools needed to deliver equitable and sustainable, learner‑driven futures.

ON THE PROGRAMME...

Don't Mention the VAR

The same thing happens over and over again. We think we have a problem. We think we can solve it with technology. But then it turns out that it doesn't solve it. Solving problems with technology is harder than you think, but there seems to be only one way forward: even more technology. Only, that technology tends to side with the rules and with the people who like rules until we only talk about rules and no longer about the intention.

Don't Mention the VAR is a parable that uses football as an example to show the pitfalls we keep falling into and what we can do better in education.

Ethical Issues and Education Innovation Panel

The use of an increasingly rich set of tools and approaches to learning brings with it a new set of legal and ethical challenges. Join us to explore the issues and find out how public institutions and technology providers are working together to ensure safe, inclusive and responsible use of innovative tools.

EdTech Time Travel: What 35 Years of Innovation Teaches Us about the Future

A time travelling workshop for educators and technologists alike. We will think critically about the trajectory of education technology to identify lessons from the past that can guide innovation for the future. Together, we’ll map patterns and identify repeating cycles, false dawns, and durable transformations. Applying these insights, we will uncover how the next generation of tools can better serve learning.

The Summit is chaired by Dr Gill Ferrell. Gill has been Content Chair for ISE's education-themed conferences since 2017. As Executive Director Europe for the 1EdTech Consortium, Gill supports European learning providers and suppliers developing open edtech standards. She also co-leads a learning technology special interest group for European universities. She has been a speaker at many international events and has authored a number of widely-used good practice guides on enhancing learning with technology. Her extensive network of contacts allows us to bring a wide range of perspectives to the summit.
