AVIXA, CEDIA and ISE provide young people with a gateway to the AV industry
For any industry to survive and thrive, it’s important to attract sufficient numbers of young people to join it. It’s not simply a question of replacing the people who retire; it’s also about bringing in new enthusiasm, new talent and new ideas to drive the industry’s development.
However, our industry has something of a perception problem. While almost everyone experiences professional audiovisual solutions in their day-to-day lives, the industry responsible for them does not have a high profile among the general public nor in the world of schools and universities (outside their AV departments) and so it can easily be overlooked as a career option.
AV Career Day, which takes place during ISE, is designed to inform, excite and inspire young people and educators, and to promote greater awareness of AV careers. It also aims to build bridges between schools and industry companies seeking qualified talent.
Along with their faculty, students spend the day touring the trade show floor, seeing at first hand how AV professionals use the newest technologies to create incredible experiences in our daily lives. Students also network with young professionals and engage with exhibiting companies showcasing different job roles in the industry.
Along with previous initiatives of this kind at ISE, AV Career Day has proved highly successful. Most participants reported being very pleasantly surprised not only at the size and spectacle of the show, but at the breadth of career opportunities that the professional AV industry has to offer.
At ISE 2020, AV Career Day took place on Thursday 13 February.
