Intel Optane SSDs have particularly short response times and incredibly high IOPS rates. When one of these SSDs with 3D Xpoint memory is inserted into one of the M.2 slots, this makes the PC noticeably more responsive. Charging times are reduced still further, and the operating system and the programs installed start faster.
"The R8 chassis format provides the ideal basis for such technology,” says Tom Seiffert, Head of Marketing & PR at Shuttle Computer Handels GmbH. "Memory capacity in the mid-double-digit terabyte range can be combined here with impressive access times."
The mainboard of the XPC Barebone SZ270R8 offers three M.2 slots in total: 1x M.2-2230, for a WLAN module for example, and 2x M.2-2280 for data storage media with a PCIe interface. The PCI Express x16 3.0 slot is available for modern graphics cards. The maximum length of the cards that can be used there (dual-slot or single-slot) is 28 cm.
